About the Film

“24 Squared Revisited” is a unique two-part project that combines the recreation of a monumental land art installation with a documentary film capturing its creation. The project is led by Taya Pocock, the daughter of visionary artist Geoff Pocock, who originally conceived the piece in the 1970s.

Then:

Inspired by the contemporary land art movement, Geoff constructed a 3456-sandbag tapestry that spanned over 640 feet by 280 feet in the vast landscapes of Monument Valley, designed to harmonize with its surrounding natural beauty.

Geoff’s creation symbolized the symbiosis between human creativity and the natural environment, bridging contemporary land art with the rich cultural heritage of the Navajo landscape.

Now:

Decades later, Taya undertakes the project of recreating her father’s work, assembling a collaborative team that includes Navajo artist Charity MacDonald. This collaboration not only revives her father’s iconic piece but also deepens its cultural resonance by highlighting Navajo perspectives on land and heritage, which lend profound context to the installation and create a living cultural exchange between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

Scheduled for installation and filming in April 2025, this new rendering of

"24 Squared Revisited" will be set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of Monument Valley, with each sandbag carefully placed to honor the original work while infusing it with contemporary artistic and cultural significance and the unique ability to juxtapose a time line spanning from 1976 til today.
